Stabilisation and Accession Council Commends BIH Progress Made in 2015 on Road to EU

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH Dr Denis Zvizdić led a Delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, comprised of BIH-level Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BIH Mirko Šarović, Minister of Foreign Affairs of BIH Igor Crnadak and Director of the Directorate for European Integrations Edin Dilberović,, at the first meeting of the Stabilisation and Accession Council between BIH and the European Union, held in Brussels, on the topic titled “Accession Strategy in the Light of the EC 2015 Report”. The meeting was chaired by Federika Mogherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and attending was Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Johannes Hahn. 

The Stabilisation and Accession Council of the European Union welcomed taking effect of the Stabilisation and Accession Agreement and commended Bosnia and Herzegovina for the progress made in 2015 on its way to the European Union. The European Union noted that the Stabilisation and Accession Agreement is a significant step ahead in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU integration process and that it offers a wide framework for strengthening of cooperation between the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina along compliance to both political and economic criteria, as well as in approximation of trade policy and EU acquis.

The Stabilisation and Accession Council welcomed the adoption of Reform Programme by BIH authorities, and marked it as an important step towards a credible fulfilment of commitments undertaken by BIH authorities.

Members of the Stabilisation and Accession Council emphasised that Bosnia and Herzegovina  is back on tract of the reforms required for recovering to the EU integrations. Based on these facts, The Council of Europe called upon Bosnia and Herzegovina to continue its positive changes and take effort  in the reform implementation, together with the civil society.

They emphasised that progressing on the reform Programme is necessary for BIH to submit the EU membership application as early as possible.

The Council also urged Bosnia and Herzegovina to focus on betterment of socio-economic situation with a view at progressing along the European integrations. The Stabilisation and Accession Council welcomed a Strategic Document and Report for Bosnia and Herzegovina, adopted by the Commission on November 10, 2015.
