In the BIH Consular Office in Drač, led by Consul of Honour Fikret Klarić, whose ascendants came from Mostar, talked on the status of the Bosniak minority. The Consul thanked to Chairman Zvizdić for the visit, saying that it has an extreme relevance for the Bosniak community in Albania.
“There are about ten thousand Bsoniaks in the Albanian municipalities of Šijah. Sukht and Džavzotaj, whose ascents came to Albania from Mostar, Počitelj, Čapljina, Blagaj and Domanovići about 140 years ago. The Bosniak minority made a notable progress over the last twenty years. They founded ‘Zambak’ Association of Bosniaks, so we now have two motherlands. To is our wealth, which we are proud of”, Consul Klarić said.
He pointed at still un-solved status of Bosniaks, the way other national minorities, like Greek, Macedonian and Montenegrin have already solved their status. He spoke of possibilities of dual citizenship and asked Chairman Zvizdić to support a launch of the procedure to solve this issue.
Chairman Zvizdić expressed his pleasure for having na opportunity to meet with Bosnaiks, and said that Bosniaks in Albania are very valuable part of the society in which they managed to get integrated into all social streams of the state. He commended a century-long cherishing of the Bosniak language, adding that there communities rarely manage to maintain their identity on this way.
Chairman Zvizdić promised to initiate the start of the required procedure for this community to get the minority status.
