Minister of Defense of Kingdom of Spain, Carme Chacon Piqueras visited Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina at Tuesday October 13th 2009.



Minister Piqueras, head of delegation of MoD of Kingdom of Spain have meeting in Army Hall with high delegation of MoD of Bosnia and Herzegovina. High Spanish delegation was hosted by Minister of Defense of B&H Selmo Cikotic, PhD, with deputies Mr. Zivko Marjanac and Ms. Marina Pendes, Chief of JS of AF of B&H LtcG. Miladin Milojcic and DC of JS of AF of B&H GM Slavko Puljic. Ambassador of Kingdom of Spain H.E. Alejandro Alvargonzales was also present during the meeting.

 

On the meeting of two delegations is emphasized that, despite the fact that Spanish Military contingent in B&H have great significance in past bilateral cooperation in area of Defense in future period could be expanded and improved. Armed forces of Kingdom of Spain have been deployed in B&H since 1992, and in certain stages of transformation of forces Spanish AF kept significant role and at the moment have one unit deployed as a part of EUFOR. In accordance with MoU which was signed before between two Ministries, two group of deminers from AF of B&H was trained at the very high professional level.

 

Minister Cikotic passes his thanks for all help which MoD and AF of B&H received from MoD and AF of Kingdom of Spain. Minister Cikotic also mentioned readiness to continue and strengthen cooperation between two countries in area of Defense. Regarding the fact that Kingdom of Spain doesn’t have accredited Military attaché to B&H, Minister Cikotic proposed to start procedure for nomination of Military attaché to B&H. During the meeting, Minister Cikotic informed Spanish delegation about activities of MoD of B&H which contributing further progress of B&H toward NATO membership. On the meeting was also discussed about activities regarding participation of members of AF of B&H in ISAF mission and help of MoD of Kingdom of Spain in reconstruction of Spanish square in Mostar.

 

Minister of Defense of KJingdom of Spain expressed hers satisfaction and thanks for warm welcome and also expressed readiness for continuance and to more strengthen cooperation between two Ministries.
