Minister Špirić Receives EIB Delegation



Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH and Minister of Finance and Treasury Dr Nikola Špirić received in Sarajevo a Delegation of the European Investment Bank (EIB), led by Director for Western Balkans Dominique Courbin.

Minister Špirić pointed that the EIB has financed major projects in BIH in various sectors, especially in road infrastructure and energy sector, which is supported by a fact that this Bank placed EUR 1.1 billion through 16 loan agreements, in year 2000.

Courbin emphasised that the EIB finances projects in BIH at annual level of EUR 200-250 million, and that the project realisation unfolds as planned.

The meeting stressed that local communities should be more frequently involved into such projects, and currently there three on-going water supply projects in municipalities in the FBIH and a flood protection project in RS.

The EIB is ready to support education and health sector projects, which would, in Minister Špirić’s view, provide a considerable contribution to Entity Governments and line Ministries, but would primarily benefit users within the education and health systems.
