Minister of Communications and Transport of BIH Damir Hadžić talked in Sarajevo with representatives of the State Agency for Personal Data Protection, within final activities on a Proposal Law in Electronic Communications in BIH.

Minister Hadžić stressed that it is particularly important to define legislative solutions in order to guarantee the preservation of privacy and protection of citizens’ personal data in the public communication service provision. In that regard, the meeting noted that the public communications operator is obliged to report its findings on any breach of data privacy to a competent personal data protection authority.

Last year, the BIH Agency for Personal Data Protection received 120 requests for a check of allegations on breach of personal data protection, and brought 10 misdemeanour warrants.

The Law on Electronic Communications in BIH regulates the use of electronic communication networks and electronic communications service provision, management of radiofrequency spectrum, digital radio-diffusion, including the scope of operations and competences of electronic communications and audio-visual services regulator.

BIH Minister of Communications and Transport designated a work group for the preparation of the Draft Law on Electronic Communications, this May, in order to accelerate the law drafting process.

All relevant institutions and European experts have been consulted and a public debate organised, so that the law drafting is now in its final stage, while the parliamentarian procedure for its adoption is planned for early next year.
