Borovac – Hunt: to Strengthen Position of Women in BIH Society

Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of BIH Semiha Borovac received today in Sarajevo Founder and Director of the Washington-based Institute for Inclusive Security Swanee Hunt, with whom she discussed the state of human rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina with a focus to activities of the Gender Equality Agency of BIH.
Minister Borovac and Director Hunt exchanged their positions on international solutions concerning gender equality in BIH, operations of the State Agency, application of the BIH Law on Gender Equality in practice, Gender Action Plan implementation in BIH and institutional compliance to the relevant legislation in BIH.
Minister Borovac thanked to Director Hunt for her unreserved commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina and diligent effort on empowering women in the BIH society. She stressed that during her mandate, the focus of the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees will be on institutional strengthening of women position in the BIH society.
Sweene Hunt is the Harvard professor, globally renowned activist in the area of protection of women human rights in both conflict and post-conflict societies; she is founder and Director of the Institute for Inclusive Security, based in Washington, and ex US Ambassador in the Republic of Austria.
The Institute for inclusive security, she has been leading for a number of years, supports gender equality and empowering of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it supports the BIH Gender Equality Agency, especially as concerns the implementation of the UNSC resolution No. 1325 “Women, Peace and Security”, including promotion of development, monitoring and evaluation of the Action Plan resolution implementation in BIH.
